Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 24th August, 1921.

I have the honour to state that a petition has been received from the members of the Indian Staff of the Prison Department complaining that they are required to serve until they are 55 years of age before being allowed to retire on pension, whereas the retiring age for Indien members of the Police Force is 45.

The more arduous duties of the Police Force may perhaps justify some distinction, and in any case I do not consider that the retiring age for the Prison Steff should be reduced to 45, but it would, in my opinion, be reasonable to reduce it to 50, and I shall be glad to learn whether you would consent to this proposal.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient humble servant,
P. 2. Staks.
Governor, &c.
WINSTON CHURCHILL, M.P.,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
